Addison's disease is a rare endocrine disorder. It occurs when the adrenal glands cannot produce sufficient hormones (corticosteroids). It is thought to be caused by an autoimmune disorder. Addison's disease is managed with steroid (corticosteroid) replacement for life.
Addison’s disease is named after Dr. Thomas Addison, the British physician who first described the condition in 1849.
United States President John F. Kennedy was one of the best-known Addison's disease sufferers. He was possibly one of the first Addisonians to survive major surgery. There was substantial secrecy surrounding his health during his years as president, and the 25th amendment to the U.S. constitution was introduced at least in part as a result of this secrecy.
Popular singer Helen Reddy.
Scientist Eugene Merle Shoemaker, co-discoverer of the Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9.
French Carmelite nun and religious writer Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity
Some have suggested that Jane Austen was an avant la lettre case, but others have disputed this.
According to Dr. Carl Abbott, a Canadian medical researcher, Charles Dickens may also have been affected.
Although I am not famous like the above people I too have Addison's Disease. It is well under control with medication. I thought as it is almost awareness month by posting a little information it may be a little more understood / recognized.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6166513867715554413.post-79016089814217049122012-03-18T21:22:00.000-07:002012-03-18T21:22:32.208-07:00Frustrated.....aaaaggghhhhhhh!Today, like every couple of days for the past few weeks I have come on to post some photos of finished projects. For some reason my photos wont upload. This is happening on other sites too and I can tell you it is driving me nuts. (Silly me went to put a picture of a nut!)
So I tried "Googling" a solution and so far I have cleaned my cache (pretty good really, considering I have no idea what a cache is), I have downloaded the latest version of Adobe, and still no luck. I will persevere but it is soooooo frustrating!

Needless to say even with more time on my hands I didn't have time to make all the presents. I did however make 2 cushions. I found the pattern in an old magazine the centre was supposed to be a cross stitched block but I chose a nice piece of fabric and I must say I was happy with the result. I admit when it came to tying the bows I was all "fingers and thumbs" so in the end my daughter did, didn't she make a good job?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6166513867715554413.post-40624902262166489572012-01-06T20:49:00.000-08:002012-01-06T20:56:06.522-08:00Swap wallhanging<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGDnfj9xxR9JQMFcRwlhIC4i4as6CTq2Da3QoXsx4zQ1ks04A9natqPV9O2FcCVgrM2bko089fQ5fAyIHUrTmZhFtpSn705lrRgcPwNsoEp6cuykP_pA8LE5yrT11OinPba4KzvLDuQDs/s320/003.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5694747991148304658" />

Finally put together some swaps to make one rather large wall hanging. In it are three different swaps. There are two initial swaps a "H" and a "B" plus a star swap.

I do the swaps through an online group in yahoo, or should that be on yahoo? The group is called SCIS, Southern Cross Inital swappers but we swap more than initials, I have been in round robins, row by row swaps, and picture swaps. I t is fun to go to your mail box and get a "squishie" otherwise known as a packet with some patchwork or applique blocks in it. It is a BOM block of the month called, "Postcards from Paris" I only have four more blocks to go. If you go to www.rosepatchwork.com you will probably be able to see a picture of it. Or maybe not I have had it for quite some time, well over a year!

TOTALLY UNQUILTY OR ANYTHING ELSE
Every week I go ten pin bowling in a small league. It actually takes longer to cut out the blocks than to do the sewing!

MOVIES
In my last post I mentioned that I was looking forward to seeing "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". Well I have got to say what a dissappointment! Nobody told me it was a subtitled film. I am just not into reading movies! I want to watch a film, and enjoy the big picture. I was lucky in that I had read the book so I could stop reading sometimes and not miss much however Brian, my husband hadn't read the book so he was solidly reading. When we left the cinema I checked the posters and there was nothing to say it was foreign language. Not happy!

WEIGHT

Well let's just say the dietitian is not going to be too impresses this month! Well there was Easter to contend with as well as school holidays. I will be better next month.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6166513867715554413.post-27659575609575985612010-03-01T20:43:00.000-08:002010-03-01T20:58:44.862-08:00Procrastination....................If there was an award for procrastination I would surely win it.
In my last patchwork class, I had a series of disasters and as a result I have so much sewing to do to catch up. Not really a problem as I have two weeks, or I should say had two weeks but it is amazing how many other things I am finding to fill my time. I don't even know why, I love to sew, I love what I am sewing so what is the problem???? I have no idea, but after writing this I think I am all out of excuses.
Here is a photo of some pieces ready to sew

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiySFrFV192HeBq7WYo14ARHSYpjP5o5lv90b2pZJ1kgHfDFhlSX5oVkKdta6y58Ob5qnsEaHb3eNJzywDaNyRmhVObwCEXnLCXGPj3gfMuQbA0ZrtQ2E9MUwMKe115t0fnHtuIJdR4bOE/s320/IMG_9185.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5443894184849588034" />

On a different note I went to see an interesting movie today, Precious. Along with more I should try and incorporate low G I foods. Well a week and a bit later and I have already lost 4 kilos. Probably 20 plus years ago I made a calander using glue and fabric pens and for the last three or four years I have meant to sew a new one. I am pleased to say I have just completed a beautiful new advent calander for the family to enjoy (even thought they are not really children any more!)
It took me a while to find a pattern that I was happy with I eventually found this pattern in a Patchwork and Stitching magazine.
This is my calander.....

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6166513867715554413.post-76229387058561329072009-10-20T14:56:00.000-07:002009-10-20T15:13:12.532-07:00Mosaics<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 130px; height: 130px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnCVN6fG2xzmA6K7Y0L_4I3V3TuuOV9iKJt4uxYbRkO2DJZ-QHCmgHjA1w2nEAvmH1My0u68NFh62zHzhRGoo5cqVbkzV_DEs3I56UK4rbLx70q4q0jBxgODjA8GyVu9k1rIxQqXxVbxo/s320/mosaics1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5394808457212904114" />
In our local library I picked up a short course brochure and in it was a mosaics course. Mosaics is something I have wanted to try for a few years so I enrolled.
Have you ever had an idea of how something will be, then when you actually do it, it is completely different? After the first week I was thinking this just wasn't for me, however I thought stick it out (actually that was a financial decision more - I paid for it I was doing it!) Anyway last night was good, I think I can actually see that I might enjoy this mosaics stuff after all. At the moment I have a sore back so sewing time is limited as I can't sit for too long otherwise I am in pain and walk around all hunched over. Still slow and steady wins the race.

Weight status - still there! However there is a little less of it as I decided to join Weight Watchers. I went to the first meeting last Wednesday, it was quite good. The leader showed me her "fat" pictures so it does work as she couldn't have "fat" pictures taken of her anymore. All the other ladies were very friendly so much so that I am actually looking forward to going back next week. One such swap has just finished, and I have all the blocks home. It was an initial swap, this is where you cut out 12 pieces of fabric and onto one of them sew and initial. The twelve blocks then get posted to the next member of the swap and they sew something starting with the initial, then they forward it to the next person. Eventually (well 12 months later) the pieces of fabric all arrive back at your house having all been sewn on. It is good fun, it also ensures that at least one day a month there will be something other than bills in your letter box!

Anyway I have a photo of my initial swap blocks that I received home. Hopefully I will finish today! Even more hopefully I will make a start on the sewing, as it is Saturday the next set of instructions will be posted....

Have you heard of Addison's Disease?

"Addison's disease is a rare endocrine, or hormonal disorder that affects about 1 in 100,000 people. It occurs in all age groups and afflicts men and women equally. The disease is characterized by weight loss, muscle weakness, fatigue, low blood pressure, and sometimes darkening of the skin in both exposed and nonexposed parts of the body." http://www.addisons.org.au

I am one of the the rare people with the disease and as such regularly see a specialist. I am on various medications and the steroids are playing havoc with my weight. Let me tell you I have never been a slim person, with the exception of when the Addison's was brewing, however I am now quite overweight...Anyway the fact is I have to lose weight. I feel like a blob. YUK!
But how? I have tried many diets and can't last very long. I look at things like Jenny Craig then look at the enormous cost. HELP I say!!! I realise there is no easy quick fix solution but I need a plan that I can stick to long term. So I have my thinking cap on.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg88GFyI8E0OLpXQdJMonRIzVISF-Abf89Y7m2bzojJsTs67Vz2l-nd7JBAAViUQwUGb-qg3PsuO9s0iYI_RoRB7p98q3lsjGKAcpTbzrW9X_cd7AnEHXjHn1mvUbzSlqb8jKGfjBxKP8w/s320/178-7830_IMG.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266046797716692786" />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6166513867715554413.post-37284719622894917262008-11-04T14:50:00.001-08:002008-11-04T14:51:31.063-08:00Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6166513867715554413.post-15366899640515005442008-11-04T14:24:00.000-08:002008-11-04T14:35:50.563-08:00Mystery Quilt

If you search on line you are able to find many things. At the moment I am just starting a mystery quilt through one of these groups.

A mystery quilt is just that you don't know what the quilt will look like.It is run like this First the fabric requirements are posted to the list a few weeks before the stitching day Then the cutting instructions are posted. Then on the day decided starting a 9 am the first lot of sewing instructions are posted to the net.The next lot follow a week later, then another lot the following week and so on until all the sewing instructions have been posted to the group. MQ's are fun to do and some ladies organise a few to get together at one house and sew.The only person who knows exactly what the top will look like is the'hostess'.

I have chosen my fabrics and have just begun cutting them out. I have to admit here the first two sets of sewing instructions are all ready out but I am a little behind.

Anyway online groups can be fun, why not have a look for one that would interest you?

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6166513867715554413.post-30898938232368288342008-11-02T14:30:00.000-08:002008-11-02T14:38:24.239-08:00My second blog..this time for me!

Hello, as the title suggests this is my second blog. The first I had to write..or do..not sure of correct term there but either way it was a requirement for my job. Don't get me wrong I actually enjoyed writng it but didn't feel I could add more personal things so hence this blog.

The title pretty much somes it up, yes I love to quilt, yes I do have weight issues and yes my life revolves around so much I couldn't some it up in a short quirky title.

I guess I hope to show you some of my quilting, perhaps inspire the odd person and I hope to over time address some of my weight issues and just basically chat about life in general.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
